    Flat Affect seems to be a distinction that is rare among the profiles in the new forums. I wouldn't be surprised that there be nothing that would severally separate the haves from have-nots. Still if you find or suspect that there is something even slightly noticeable to come tell us stranger dangers right away, but only if you're feeling dangerous and daring and endurablely uncomfortable able it. ?

    I just reread the subsection on Flat Effect https://cognitivetype.com/psychoanalytical-system/. Actually this might be bigger than how I pictured at first. Now I wouldn't surprised if those who has FT decides not to post and everyone else calls me asshole after rereading the section for themselves. Still this topic is stays just in case anyone wants to prove my neurotic suspicions wrong.

    A more complete psychological description is found in this page:

    X-1: Flat Affect

    And from this page:
    The word “submerged” refers to the psychological state of being involuntarily weighed down by the bowels of the unconscious, whether through archetypes, symbols or dreams. It is a state in which the mind is battling against certain contents and the energies of the individual are driven to address this internal narrative. Carl Jung, during 1913-1916 entered one such state of submersion where he withdrew much of his energies from the world and became consumed by visions out of which eventually emerged the Red Book. Clinically, submersion may manifest as depression, anxiety, bipolar, aggression and emotional volatility and other mental conditions — yet these are often outward symptoms of a deeper spiritual dilemma.
    No types are more acquainted with the depths of human nature; no types are more aware of the shadowy corners of our being than those who have gone through immersion and come out through the other side. From this place springs forth great creative force and artwork. But no types are also more afflicted with the curse of Being than these. Submersion is a dangerous game to play, and not all who plunge headlong into the abyss return again for breath.

    I’ve been typed with flat affect. I’ve also been treated for mental illness in the past as well as currently (aiming to attempt tapering off my meds soon). I’ve been interested in typology for awhile for reasons I’m not aware of. Maybe this is a manifestation of the submerged trait associated with flat affect?

    I have a flat affect and it makes sense that I have it since I did go through a very deep depressive episode about a year ago. It was a mental and physical journey: vivid visions of the future and the past; anxiety (which I've never had); exploring/getting lost in mental labyrinths, powerful (that is, physical) emotions; psychosis; and saw first hand how much our brain/mind is in control of our thoughts/feelings/desires/fears/and basically all that consists of our sense of self. Before reading Jung I had already analyzed that the depression I had was a sort of brain/mind mechanism that had been triggered for survival because, in the end, the question was whether to live (adapt to the problem at hand) or die and the whole process (which Auburn calls submersion) was towards figuring that out.

    I’m surprised I don’t have flat affect as I’ve suffered from severe depression all my life. I was diagnosed as a young child, have been on and off a variety of meds, should have been hospitalized but couldn’t afford it, and now I see a therapist once a week.

    Wow... not that this aspect of CT has to be perfect, yet it seems like this visible pattern is something that is either completely present or completely absent without any spectrum that would show gradual leaning toward or away from something like a Broader Line Flat Affect. Like an all in one instant triggering effect? If this is the case... science went to a whole new level of weird for me. And I am the weirdness person to most people I know whom have ever met me.?
    Back to being fully serious though... the fact that you all have yet to find cure for all this suffering even after so long till now is kind of dispiriting.

    @Auburn
    I have been meaning as ask this for awhile... is there as many type variations projected to be available to an infant or a toddler as there would be for an adult? Like +1024 or so right?  If not I'd be really curious as to what might be available to that early life window.

    It does manifest as a spectrum in reality, but it's reduced to a binary here out of necessity. There was talk of a 1-10 scale at some point, so someone could be a 4/10 on it (etc).
    @elisaday - Right, you don't have flat affect. But from what you said, I wouldn't be surprised if some younger photos of you showed flat affect. That sounds like a rough thing for a child to go through..

    Is there anything you all would want everyone else to know or understand about you in terms of your FA?
    If not, then as of right now my simple Pe curiosity was considered feed quicker than expected.

    @auburn
    If I had to guess right now I'd say 6/10 is what it takes to get rated Flat Affect in CT, no?
