ET is a compound function in Model 1, created by the combined activity of Fe->Ti or "Fe in service to Ti." ET has the same general attitudes as Te (E+T), but is coming from Fe-Ti's metabolism. ET is the sub-primary function of the FeSi and FeNi types and is present in all Alpha and Beta types.
The ET compound is produced when Fe's causality-focus, as a Je function, is evaluated impersonally by Ti to extract out the abiotic operations of causality. What results is an abiotic conceptualization of objective domains other than the living, which are nonetheless looked at from the perspective of their relationship to the collective human narrative. While Fe is normally directed towards seeing conscious agents working in a transactional social economy towards an evolutionary aim, Fe is now directed at seeing abiotic causalities working towards said aims. An awareness of mechanical causality is conceptually held in thought, but it is not removed from a teleological intuition which is registered behind every mechanical act, being its "what for." ET still experiences causality as being mechanically existent "for" a conscious purposefulness. Without that purposefulness, causality feels dead but also inaccurate, disorganized and false. The opposite is true of Te, which not only registers causality abiotically, but views it as carrying no causal intention; the intents are registered through Fi essentialism instead. An Fi-Te user will also assign the property of livinghood to things, but this would come from Fi in a static way, while causal processes would still be experienced in a matter-of-fact way.
The following are behaviors commonly manifested by Fe in service to Ti.
When Fe is put to the service of Ti, Ti's essentialism is applied to Fe's causalities so that they are conceptualized as impersonal. ET scientists may do their science 'mechanically', but there is an entirely different meaning-tone to everything they do. Science to them becomes synonymous with "uncovering the secrets of the Absolute", where the absolute has some sort of revered or sacred quality. It becomes a kind of sublimation of divinity and meaning into cosmos, where implicit intent is extended to inanimate processes, and those processes are affectively transmuted. The linearity of cause-effect relationships is not necessarily seen as a negation of an intentional cosmos; it can also be seen as the means by which that intention expresses itself. A conception of "purpose" may therefore develop which is compatible with scientific thought - being tautologically identical to the natural universe's unfurling.
In a different metabolic outcome of Fe->Ti, that compatibility is not attained. In some ET types, the person ends up denying causal-intent at the intellectual level. Like the philosopher Camus, a position may be taken that we live in a universe that is indifferent and unrelated to human existential affairs. The ET individual will profess to live regardless of an allegedly missing extrinsic gravitic attractor, operating in rebellion to a conceptually hidden "what for." However, a paradox develops in such people, manifested as a cognitive dissonance between what is intellectually held and what is intuitively sensed. As with all cognitive types, the Fe-Ti type will not be able to break free of their cognitive bias or assumptions innate to their metabolism and which exists prior to any personal thoughts. For example, in Camus' rebellious absurdism, we see a non-neutrality to the topic of universal intent; a specific affect circling around this topic which does not grip those who are not ET types. Therefore, implicit in his polemic against an intentional universe is the cognitive acknowledgement of such a universe - for we cannot push back against nothingness. We thus see that in the rebellion itself, the individual shows a cognitive recognition of an intentional causality, but exists in a practical denial against the very real cognitive intuition of what feels like the answer ought to be. The inability of the individual to grant themselves a certain intellectual license here, nevertheless does not subtract from the presence of the gravitic attractor pulling on their soul.
In yet another variation of the Fe->Ti combination, the individual may retain a belief in the intentional nature of reality which is substantiated through a form of instrumentalism. This instrumental approach concedes to the scientific causality underpinning topics of human agency such as consciousness, free will, religious truths, moral truths and objective meaning. However, while for some this mechanistic approach to causality may threaten to undermine the literality of these ideas, the ET type will disagree that such ideas are categorically false when we consider that belief in them is life-conducive, vitality-promoting and leads to greater harmonies between all beings. The ET type will instead view such ideas as belonging to a different class of 'truth' than mechanics; a category which is not beneath mechanics but alongside or perhaps beyond them. Indeed, some ET types may assert that the positive outcomes of subscription to life-conducive ideas is evidence for their higher reality. Considering that the ET type retains an implicit connection between causality and moral intent, beliefs that are life-conducive when adhered to are the most worthy of being given truth status since they would classify as the most objective things in this view.
