I definitely think most of the mistyping are due to wrong and very generalized descriptions that are based on stereotypes and misconceptions. Especially the ones that are predominant in MBTI forums, such as calling Sensors "dumb" or Feelers "irrational" which lead to a lot of people thinking their Intuitive or Thinkers because of the good light they're seen on. This is something that has severely affected my self-assessment since I never truly felt connected to being the life of the party, scatterbrain or overly emotional as ENFPs are often portrayed.
So, how similar or far fetched are the common descriptions of your type versus how are you seen or identify as?

The MBTI INFP stereotypes are accurate in my case. Long ago I typed myself INFP based on the stereotypes only. I’m just a walking cliché, really.

Which ones do you resonate the most with?
I have an FiNe friend who's also a walking stereotype but I never really tell her that since I'm afraid she's gonna get offended and think that I'm not calling her unique or something, lol.

@celeste Always depressed, goth, sensitive, emotional, artistic, creative, etc.
There are sooooo many of us out there in the world I don’t consider myself very unique at all. I’m always calling myself a basic bitch 😛

If I really am Fi dominant then the descriptions that emphasize that Fi is about having a strong sense of identity, unwavering personal ethics, firm conviction, and impeccable sense of moral right and wrong then that is incorrect.

Hmm...maybe we understand those differently, but so far you seem to have at least a very clear identity or sense of yourself, at least in the last few weeks. Can't speak to how you've been on other occasions. Incidentally, we noted on discord some time back that the people who always have a big problem with their typing because they have a strong self-concept that doesn't jive with what they're given are almost always Fi users. Ti-Fe users tend to be much more open/easy going when it comes to being communally typed if they get different results than they had perceived themselves as; at least as far as the history on discord has shown.

@fae hmm that’s definitely not the pattern I’ve noticed. What I’ve noticed is those who get typed Fe dom are the ones protesting the loudest and longest. I’ve also noticed quite a few who were originally typed Fi dom but then protested their way into Fe secondary. (The Discord chat is far too fast-paced for me, so I’m mostly talking about the old forum.)
My protest wasn’t so much about the type I was given but the hypothesized reasons that an FiNe would mistype within a post I was tagged.
A system-based type is one thing, but when I say “identity” I’m mostly talking about how you would describe yourself to people outside of a typing system: your likes, dislikes, family roots, relation to others, loyalties, beliefs, etc. Are you a mother? A husband? A Christian? A patriot? A doctor? A hockey fan? Things like that.
When my therapist asked me “who are you?” I was unable to give him any answer besides “lonely.” He said that’s a “what” not a “who.” He then challenged me over the following week to come up with a list of 10 things that answered the question, but I failed to come up with anything. There is what I have done, what I am doing, and what I hope to do. Any sense of identity I may have is constantly evolving, cycling, and unrecognizable from what it once may have been before.

I am also pretty high Fi 🙂 and Fi ego and I absolutely hate the question "who are you?" What's that supposed to mean? ? You can't tell someone who you are, you express it by living it/showing it. It's something in your heart that shines through.
It's also highly debatable if "I" as a separate being exists at all or if it's just a conglomerate of ideas, emotions and sensations arranged in certain patterns...and, of course, changing...but in a somewhat predetermined way.

In mbti, Ti and Fi have a mythos around them of people being the ideal examples of the functional domain. In Mbti and socionics, the Ti doms aren't just logical, they're logical to the maximal degree, with scarce mention of what excites or innervates their movement towards logic. I'm offering this information because I wish to paint a small picture here.

An individual must develop. They must grow. From growth, patterns - forms - are revealed.

A imaginal pattern for Ji - Fi and Ti - is the Castle. another is the Prince/Princess. They are associational images, with relevance to the form, though not perfectly apprehending or describing them (the functions).

Is the Prince or Princess an All Knowing God? No. They are not simply equal. Nor is the Castle, The World.
What is a Princess/Prince? What is a Castle? Not merely as words, but as images, and all their associated words.
The Castle contains, protects. The Prince or Princess grows within it's walls. The Castle can be a prison, the Prince/Princess a degenerate, or they could be the hope, the haven, the stony womb of great things and the child of that womb. The secret and the thing to be told. Walls by existing demand testing, othering (and it's dissolution). The Prince/Princess is in a liminal state - higher than all others, but not yet the highest.
Those two image sets as limited examples.

Right now, I think of a princess running hurriedly down stone stairs into a dark chamber with a bright gem within it. Upon arriving the gem is in question, it's facets are naked to see, and with the most delicate precision the princess touches the surface where it yields stairs leading up and down, to other chambers, other worlds, other gems.
That gentle reaching out (and in) to the image - whether pursued internally or out in the world in the form of action - is an Image of its own. The entirety of the images are subjective to me of course, though I'm sure theres something to carry over for other people.

With MBTI and Socionics profiles. Something that is often missed is the strongly fantastical nature of the profiles. They don't exist. Point to the ENFJ on the street. Who are they? You may find someone who quite resembles a profile of an ENFJ comparative to others, but the profile itself is a set of ideas, not too dissimilar to archetypes. Like the Greek Pantheon of old, "They Are, yet never were".
They are narratives. Take that for what you will.

I love the idea of being a person who 'does things' and doesn't think. Someone who throws her body full force into any physical endeavor. An oversexed, lusty, gluttonous animal... excellent at sports, aesthetics, motion and seduction. A magnet for friends and men. Lovable, fun. Living in the moment, absorbing each sensation down to the bone... redefining myself with every new experience.  Live fast, die young and leave a sexy corpse.
When I was young, I wrote songs about being homeless. My first full song... I was 8 years old. By age 11 I wrote two novels about homeless girls, one of which lived in another galaxy and became a prostitute spy.
I dreamed of being a homeless prostitute, selling the only thing I have - my body, my dignity - because there was nothing else left. The idea of being so free, with no property tying a noose around my neck, no school and career concerns, no family to answer to... it was so damn romantic.
But I was never the type. I choked on my own will and perfectionism. I needed to master music, to deliver my message, to be a vessel through which the cosmos might express itself. I needed to be more, better, truer.  My senses were easily overwhelmed; I was terrible at sports. I was not particularly likable due to obsessive passion, over-sensitivity, blunt truth-telling and an internal world so deep that people considered me 'weird.' I never got along with other kids, because I lived on another planet in my mind and the lives of my characters were more real to me than the person inside my body. Once someone found out what I really cared about, they could not connect to me.  I was just too off-world.
By the time I was 11 I sold my first song to be used in a play, and by 13 I had a music career. I got straight As so I could earn my parents' approval and they would buy me music lessons. I practiced constantly. I gave up everything..friends, sports, fun - for the sake of this dream. I was just on the precipice of making it big when fate struck and left me chronically ill, speaking in a whisper for the rest of my days.
Though I was tied down by medicine, I was free of obligations now. No career, no obsessive music practicing, no future plan. So now what?  Sex and drugs were not nearly enough to fill the hole that music left, though I will not deny that I partook. 🙂 I had tasted a sense of purpose and I would not be satisfied until I was overtaken by a cosmic chase that would force me to confront my humanity and transcend.
I took LSD and dove down into my unconscious through dreamwork... stuff you see in Ni descriptions. Then a vision came to me, of a fantasy trilogy with tremendous meaning. I knew this was my life's purpose. I was always a natural at music, but I was a horrible writer. I set out to become better while also singing through my whisper for as long as my body allowed, pursuing the dreams of my childhood and the vision that had grabbed me by the core.
So many chances to live moment to moment, and I never accepted them. I was too hungry, too desirous. I needed prey that would magnetize me and shape me for a lifetime. Goals I could never quite fulfill. I needed to make something of myself, to manifest the universe that lives inside me, or else it would eat me alive.
So much  for being an ESFP.
