Tagged: survey
I've been inspired by those in this community who have recently designed their own studies and/or performed surveys. Relating to discussions and posts on the topic of attitudes of the heart, I designed a survey to explore a potential link between attachment styles and heartitudes. Fortunately, surveys designed by psychologists to measure attachment styles in adult (16+) participants are freely available on the internet, so I did not have to make up questions on my own and just guess how well they assess attachment styles.
So it's quite simple to create, and it is almost done. The thing is, I will need at least 20 participants, because that is the minimum sample size required for the statistical test to be performed. I am limiting it to CT-typed people who want to participate, in order to keep the typing criteria consistent. It seems I would have to reach out to others beyond just those who are active enough on the forums to see this, to reach this number.
What do you guys think? Does it sound like a good idea to you? Do you see any problems with it? Has it already been done before? Would you want to help rope in more volunteers? XD
I'd be up for participating! I would be curious to see the results. I have been wondering where the heartitudes come from. I'd be happy to ask people I know irl to participate, but none of them have been officially CT-typed. IÂ may be able to convince a couple of them to get typed, but that's a big maybe. The only way I know of reaching more CT-typed people is through Discord.
(Somewhat relatedly, I've been thinking that @Auburn really ought to include optional survey questions in the process of ordering a typing. It would be so helpful to be able to gather more data about all the officially typed folks).
Great. Thank you for your interest, fayest. 🙂 I am on Discord, too.
I also want to add that results will be received anonymously, which should help people to be ok with answering the questions honestly.
At least, I read that Google Forms works that way. I will not know who submitted the survey responses, or whether someone answered multiple times (It will have to rely on the honor system). However, if the thought of it being less anonymous due to the type and heartitude (e.g. SeFi Seelie) being in it bothers anybody, then I can remove the type, and just ask for the heartitude. Maybe that's a good idea.
I'm down for participating in the survey.
I'll participate. My husband will also participate, but he isn't officially typed through CT. He does know the cognitive functions he uses and I agree that is how he functions from an outsider's perspective. Having the heartitude will add value.
Yay for putting something together!
I’m all for it
I'll give it a go
I'd love to participate!
I'd love to participate too.
Tag me in!
OK guys and gals. Thanks for the enthusiasm. Without further ado, here is the link to the Google form.

I did not check the box to collect e-mail addresses, so I shouldn't get any identifying information.
I decided to (at least provisionally) accept people who have only been unofficially typed (such as Cedar's husband) in order to reach the goal of 20 participants, hence the screening question.
HTH.
Awesome !
I submitted mine. I hope you received it...?
I noticed a couple of questions that could be explained in my case at least by persistence effect and novelty seeking/thirst for information ...when answering these questions, I had these reasons in mind.
The one about (...) getting on my nerves - I definitely answered it in that particular way because of reasons that could be explained by persistence effect. Loud and unpleasant voices tend to trigger it for example.
Yes, I've gotten 10 replies already. 🙂 So even though it just sort of ends abruptly, it's working. (I don't know how to make it more user-friendly in that regard).
I can see how those things could be due to Se @Bera . I did not write the questions, I just chose this set from the ones I could find online. Mostly this one has a straightforward scoring formula. I think they took variations due to personality types somewhat into account, and that is why there is a need for so many questions, each of which can be rated from 1-5, and then there is a cutoff. So only if you were already close to the cutoff, would those one or two questions put you over the edge. I know it isn't perfect. I practiced answering and scoring myself, first, and my result was in line with what I always get on the attachment style survey I take periodically, and makes sense for my personal experience.
I also relate to persistence effect to some degree, and I know that when I'm not in a good state emotionally, loud voices or toddlers tend to really get on my nerves a lot more than when I'm healthier. But people just at their baseline usual activity level wouldn't cause a lot of persistence effect, I think?
But people just at their baseline usual activity level wouldn’t cause a lot of persistence effect, I think?
Sadly, for me many people cause persistence effect sooner or later, if I am living or working with them. For example a coworker causes me constant stress with her loud voice and aggressive tone. This affects me on a daily basis.
But it's trivial things like these that piss me off, not something about their personality or them asking intimate questions or revealing something about themselves. I can connect emotionally pretty well, but it takes high amounts of energy and I need to recharge after. 🙂
oic. That sounds very annoying to have to put up with, Bera.
But I think it's not very common among the general population, so as to effect the overall results.
There are almost enough responses! In order to do what I really want, I just need at least one more either Seelie or Adaptive, and 3 more either Unseelie or Directives. If you know someone irl, that would be good, too, because we know we can trust them.
Edit: We have enough seelies and adaptives! 😀
Edit: Just 2 more unseelie or directives.
Edit: Yay! Enough responses to do the statistical tests. Stay tuned for the results.
Done!
Total Score: 0/0
Not sure if I failed or -
Hi @nintheme . Thanks for completing it. 0/0 just means there are no right or wrong answers. 🙂
Hi @janie , hope it helped somehow. 🙂
(the 0/0 thing was a joke, sorry ^^")
I just submitted mine.
Good, cause I just closed it, with an even number of Seelie/Adaptive, and Unseelie/Directive, totaling 24 participants! <3
Calculating results now.
I missed it
Results are ready!

As @epicentity and a few others expressed interest in filling it out, after I closed it, I think it might be an idea to re-open the survey, after making some minor improvements, in order to potentially do more with it later. Bigger sample sizes are definitely better. I just felt like getting the minimum number of participants for the tests I wanted to do, which didn't even end up being the focal point of what I have to show you.
And, of course, a big THANK YOU to everyone who participated and expressed interest. I genuinely feel that this is an important subject in human psychology and well-being, and am grateful for the opportunity to get a glimpse on how well some of the ideas are reflected in reality, which some people have had, regarding what "heartitudes" signify about a person's psychology. I hope that further research may be inspired, which may be of use in helping people to reach their highest potentials of psychological health, at some point.
Interesting results! Is there any way for those of us who took the survey to see our own results?
@fayest42, I could share a link to the Google sheet that was automatically generated from the survey responses, unless anyone has anything against it, of course. It shows the answers submitted, with timestamps. So theoretically, knowing when you submitted would enable you to know which results were yours. Otherwise, no one knows whose results are whose, which was on purpose, for anonymity. So, yes, you can see this, if that's what you mean. I am a proponent of open science, so I do believe that anything that is not confidential, should be shared. I mean, this was just a tiny experiment ofc, but I was trained in science, so, just saying as a general matter of principle. So that is a good idea.

It doesn't give the assessment of the answers. Could you remind me of the name of the assessment you were using so I could look it up and calculate the results myself?
