Hi there.
So as you can tell I'm an SeFi I-I-. However I've noticed that when my energy level is low, I feel really disengaged with my sensory environment. I have no appetite for food and end up staring into thin air, contemplating the meaning of life..is this an inferior Ni thing?
I'd like to delete this, since nobody responded, how do i do that?
I actually want to respond. ๐ But it was a very busy period.
Don't delete it yet ๐
I have no appetite for food and end up staring into thin air, contemplating the meaning of life..is this an inferior Ni thing?
I experience this all the time. I'm sure Ni slows you down and creates a low energy demeanor as that is how I've been my whole life.
Hey, guys !
Sometimes I am tired and I simply stare into space with no inward or outward focus, but I don't think that's something characteristic of Ni. It probably looks like an Ni, rather than Se signal, but I don't know where to put it, as it's a complete pause in thinking. It's a moment in which I am not thinking of anything ! To be honest, it feels like what I imagine Si users would feel when they are doing a confused stare :)) but I have no idea what it actually looks like. It should look like an Ni zone out, I guess...
But shouldn't people think of really deep things while Ni zoning out? :))) Putting information together in certain patterns? Is this process unconscious? We could check if after these moments of complete silence we come to a realization. ๐ Dreams occur while we are sleeping...
By the way, I wonder what is the difference between Ne-Si and Ni-Se dreams, but I'll open a different topic about it when I have a little time.
@Delrake do you know when you developed Ni? And did you notice any changes in your behavior or attitude/general concerns after it became conscious ?
that is interesting, I think there are instances where I get these internalized Ni visions where much of the Se visual and sensory data I've gathered comes together to form a whole picture almost. The tiredness could simply be a drop in energy I guess and a pause in thinking is probably not tied to cognitive functions. Perhaps there is also a lack of external stimulation which causes this to happen.
I am also curious about Se-Ni vs. Ne-Si dreams myself.
Yes ! Exactly ! There is a certain way of thinking that is not very easy to explain, but you expressed it very well here :
these internalized Ni visions where much of the Se visual and sensory data Iโve gathered comes together to form a whole picture almost.
I found this to be the case in making collages and in reading tarot. ๐ Certain images belong together. And this will be confirmed by at least 2, but usually more bridges/connections. When I see one, I already strongly assume there are others too and usually I can confirm it soon after. For example if I saw a lion in card 1 and I associated card 4 with a story, there will be a lion in that story. If I don't remember, I simply assume there is one and check and for sure, there is one. So, they belong together.
In collages 2 images belong together for me if they correspond thematically, look nice together and something from the first one continues in the second one. As in - the cloud in image 1 is part of the snow in image 2. The branch in image 2ย is touched by the hand in image 1. They need to be in the right position, have the right colors...then usually I see the first bridge/connection, then the second, third, etc. There is never just one, because they actually...really belong together. It's a fact. Not an impression/a question of taste/interpretation. Or at least this is what I perceive them to be.
In everyday life I tend to experience this especially when I'm in nature. It is usually a chain of synchronicity in which disparate images and sounds come together and have a specific meaning. I don't always get the meaning, sometimes I just see the pieces of the puzzle but I can't read their message. ๐
It can also be that moment when you finally get something. Like a social trend or a historical event.
I am also curious about Se-Ni vs. Ne-Si dreams myself.
Awesome ! I'll open a thread these days.
I'm curious both about possible differences in structure and about dreams where the functions could appear personified. I once dreamed of my Ni as Death and another time of myย Te as a crazy guy who wanted to be my boyfriend and attacked me and cut my cheek. :)))
I think there should be 2 threads. One about the archetypes and one about how the dreams are built.
Wow Bera that is really fascinating, I have the exact same thing happen to me on a daily basis almost, where I just subconsciously know what is going to happen next because I see the general theme and assume that an image, song, word, concrete object etc will be in a certain context whether in a movie, or even a song playing on the radio, and then it takes place. And then like you said there is this synchronicity which mostly takes places in a cognitive visual state, I also am not always able to interpet it unless it seems relevant to a particular event in my life at that moment, its more non-verbal and visually based (owing to Se).
Haha wow so interesting. I think I saw my Ni as a crystallized spider web for some reason, where I saw everything in my room as being interwoven and interconnected in this complex network, but I was at the center of the network. And I also think I saw my Te as a black bull charging at me, because when I'm angry I tend to go into Te mode almost and attack the other person with facts and logical black and white statements at times. My Se I haven't really been able to correlate to a specific symbol, and my Fi I think has been correlated to a wood nymph, but not sure either.
OMG ! This is so close to the way I picture my functions, it's uncanny.
For me Ni is a spidery spirit. I used to see it purely as a spider, but it slowly changed into a woman (or 3 women) with some spidery elements. Now these elements are rather psychological than visual. And the character seems to have a supporting role. Which it did not at the start. At the start it wanted to kill me. :))
I think this will all be less challenging for you because you have conscious Te and Te and Ni are friends. Someone else in the chat is SeFi I-I- and sees her Ni spider in a positive light.
The first 2 functions seem to be in conflict with the last 2, with a focus on one or the other of the last ones as being the main villain, but I think if one of the last 2 is conscious, the other one automatically is perceived as less of a threat and more of a supporter, since the one that is conscious will heavily rely on the other, as they work together a lot. But this is just my impression, based on very little experience.
Now Te - I used to see Te as a hollow armor. Either it was a knight that was asleep and only the armor could be seen, or there was the creepy feeling that this is an automaton, so...an armor that is functioning based on some simple technical rules. Not human though. And possibly dangerous.
I saw it as a horse too, but it's complicated, because I think my Te and Ni combine in the image of the horse. As horses are a sign of the Apocalypse, were used by knights, etc.
I never saw it as a bull, but Fae sees her Te as a bull, for the same reason you mentioned.
My Fi was...pretty much a wood nymph too and I think this hasn't changed much.
I think they change to humans/humanoids or at least become less threatening as they are becoming (more) conscious, though this is just one possible pattern. Another one could be from dead/asleep to alive/awake. Also the person/creature who is in control seems to matter. So it's awesome you were at the center of the network.
Oh, by the way, the spider hanging from the Fool's staff in my pfp represents my Ni. ๐ I loved that it's behind the Fool, so, unconscious. ๐ I also loved that the staff looks a bit like a bishop's crosier, so the spider's position is very fitting.
Wow your right its uncanny how the archetypes are so similar. I used to have an intense phobia of spiders as a child, I think at the time my Ni may have been underdeveloped, over the years I've lost my initial fear of spiders. Yes I was lucky to be in the center. I do see horses, sometimes black, sometimes white. I see them as significant of freedom but also morality, but I haven't really matched them to a function yet. So fascinating, the world of archetypes.
Interestingly I saw a bull riding a surfboard on a wave. I would link surfing and the wave to dominant Se, since Se tends to go with the flow of sensory experiences, while the bull (Te) could be integrating into that.
@Delrakeย do you know when you developed Ni? And did you notice any changes in your behavior or attitude/general concerns after it became conscious ?
@Beraย I'm not sure if this is Ni or just maturation but I remember around middle school I just started becoming awareย of things. I became very self-conscious and introverted and continued that way into adulthood. A big difference from my childhood which was more carefree and lighthearted. In my teens, I started trying to figure out how life worked. I had a lot of observations about people and society that needed answers. I couldn't just ignore these, I really had to think about them until I had a sufficient answer. Some of these observations took years to "solve" through pattern recognition and experience, as well as outside help like books and the internet. The inner workings of reality became more interesting to me than the external reality.
How does Ni show itself in your life? Is it something you resist or prefer not to succumb to? Also, I'm curious what conscious Fi is like for you and how that may be different from my unconscious Fi.
Delrake I had the same thing happen to me in high school, I became a lot more reserved and introspective, and started wanting to analyze the inner workings of people's psychology and their personality types. I also used to be a lot more carefree and fun-loving in younger years, but I think due to not really fitting in with others I was forced to retreat into myself and develop that side of me, and the fun-loving Se side only came out occassionally when I was in a good mood. Its funny how there is this stereotype going around that sensing types don't really care about personality types or cognitive typology, and this is absolutely false. I used to type myself as an ENFP for years because of my interest in intuitive, abstract concepts, analysis of my dreams and an almost philosophical view of everything. I don't just accept things the way they are, I question things.
I know I am typed as Se-Fi I-I- here, but I don't think my Se and Te are the only functions I consciously use. I am very much aware of my auxiliary Fi and inferior Ni, but I think because I come across as more extroverted it can be harder to spot perhaps. However I did find it hard to acknowledge my inner feelings at times, and it was only with the help of psychologists that I learned to acknowledge them. I am highly empathetic and Seelie though this used to be more towards animals than people haha.
@Rickus
Oh, yes, I have arachnophobia too. It was an unfortunate combination to see my Ni as spidery while being arahnophobic. ๐
I don't know if I could overcome this fear by developing Ni. I don't think so, as it's visceral, but luckily Ni is not really a spider. It's just a weaver !
The bull on a surfboard is so cute ! Awww ! <3
About SeFi's not being interested in personality types or in psychology in general - this is one of the many wrong opinions about us that are flooding the internet and that make us have a horrible reputation. One of my aims here was to show SeFi's can be smart, wise, decisive, serious and everything else we want. I am so happy you guys have a similar attitude !! <3
Also I think joking a lot and being playful tends to be interpreted as lacking character or values. Which is unfair, as we are simply making sure everyone is comfortable. Me not bringing up extremely serious issues every 5 seconds is a courtesy to others, not evidence that I don't care about serious topics. (but I will admit this does change with different development levels, where people tend to integrate the serious sides of their other functions and nicely blend them with Se playfulness). Still, this is extremely unfair to SeFi I--- too.
@delrake
Very interesting ! It does look like becoming Ni conscious could lead to this change. It could be a consequence of maturity too. I don't know about others but when I was 16 I did not care much about politics or history, economy etc. I also mostly explored different topics recreationally, without a very clear purpose.
Now I am trying to understand the bigger picture too and I am frustrated that I have so little time to do it because of my job and social obligations.
I would like to be able to use both Ni and Te in a decent way, even if they don't become fully conscious. I want to open my own little business, I actually already opened a little online tarot reading shop (a couple of days ago :)) )but I will not advertise it here. ๐ I have no idea if it will work, I am still exploring different options.
I am a lawyer and I'm also thinking of starting my own law office but I sadly don't have the resources right now. I know I need to better use both Te and Ni to accomplish this.
I gotta say this idea started to take shape in time, it has to do with age for sure, in my opinion in your 30s it's time to build your own business if you don't have another clear vocation path. I mean why work for others when you can do it for yourself !! There are of course things holding us back like debt, lack of self confidence, the fear of disappointing loved ones, etc. But the alternative is not prettier, it's hard to feel truly fulfilled when your activity does not truly reflect your personal goals and values and when you are not the one in charge of your schedule.
So, I want both more Ni and Te. :)) Being able to modulate them well when necessary could be enough for doing what I want, while not suddenly becoming someone completely different while still in the SeFI II-- built set of circumstances that I am living in right now. Pre conscious limbo doesn't seem awesome though, so...I'll see where this goes, I think I will carefully change both the circumstances and the modulation level, it's a life's work. :))
I developed Fi here. ๐ There are many very active Ji leads and Ji conscious people in the CT community, so I had very good role models. For Fi development it looks like it helps a lot to engage with heavy Ji users and to try to understand them and give answers with the aim to reach the same level of precision.
Now, about the differences between SeFi I--I and SeFi II-- or SeFi I-I-, since we all have different development levels...hmmm...this could be explored more and should probably be done in another thread. I will think how we could organize it. ๐
@Bera
Yeah your right the stereotypes against ESFP's are so pervasive and deep, its a sort of discrimination to be honest and it needs to stop. I think perhaps its because the majority of internet videos are from supposed Ni users (that is if they are typed correctly). Even typologists whom I respect like Michael Pierce still seem to skate on the surface of the SeFi type too much, although he does address the cliche that we are mindless hedonistic party-mongers. While I do love parties, having fun, being silly and laughing until I can't breath, that is just one aspect of my personality that some people mistake for a low intelligence. I place a high value on being concise and correct in my choice of language and feel the need to correct others. I also get offended when I show people their errors and then they point the finger at me, telling me I'm a know-it-all when I am just trying to open their eyes and suggest we all accept the objective facts and truth of the matter. Perhaps this is my tertiary Te development haha.
Thanks for saying the bull on the surfboard is cute, I loved it as well haha.
