FAQ: "how is the lead function determined?"

Hello. I'm importing this great reply from Discord, written by Puffy to the following common question:

I am curious about the criteria in this system regarding the conclusion about which function is the Lead one.

Lead function is determined with signals, first J vs P signals, then energetic signals (Ji Je Pi Pe). There are also signals specific to function axis, you’ve probably heard a blend of all the different signals in the chat. The itemized list of signals is pinned in typology channel, or you can see the signals laid out in the codifier on the website, complete with example gifs.

The issue is when someone has both J and P functions integrated you may see signals for both J and P lead. When a function is integrated (fully conscious) it can appear as the lead, sometimes for awhile. At this point subordinate rigidity vs subordinate fluidity becomes important to differentiate, which imo is one of the hardest signals to determine (people better at typing than me can catch it). There’s also things like conductor forwardness vs revisor wide head range (not official signals on the list, more like a bunch of signals that combine and create an overall vibe).

Energetic toll is also sometimes used for determining lead, meaning how much energy it takes to transition in or out of a function, as theoretically the dominant requires less energy to use. It can still be a hard call and often takes multiple videos to parse out even for certified people when multiple integrated functions are at play.

Hope that helps. Fwiw once additional functions are integrated the difference in the psyche seems to matter less, meaning harder to tell apart what is where internally (there’s lots in the backchat on this). Often a TiSe and and SeTi II— will have a lot of overlap. And soft types are hard to get full certainty anyway unless someone is super obvious.

Thank you for this Faq. I already follow the route J/P signals then the energetic signals. The development section it's still a bit fuzzy to me, I didn't know,  instead,  the conductor forwardness/revisor wide head range signal.
