    Hello all,
In response to member requests, on October 15th I'll be posting our first ever Visual Reading quiz since the transfer to the new development levels! I'm posting this here ahead of time to give members the chance to prepare.

    Purpose

    • The general purpose of the quiz will be to allow any member to test where their skills are at, in relation to the new dev levels understanding.
    • A secondary purpose will be to see if there's an evolving consensus, and to see how the statistics work out regarding what our members collectively type people as.
    • A tertiary purpose will be to discover possible candidates to form a new vultology team with--- to handle the incoming video submissions once we inevitably build an official youtube presence. This would be an income source for team members.

    Quiz Structure

The quiz will have two different scores:

    • 16 Scale: The primary objective will be to converge on type at a resolution of 1/16.
    • 512 Scale: A secondary (optional) objective will be to converge on type at a resolution of 512 (no flat affect samples will appear). This is not the core aim of this test, but one's results can be submitted with development level designations.

Also I realize that because I've done the dev levels series on my own, the results are essentially just being compared to my own (imperfect) understanding and there's a big methodological weakness in that. Unfortunately this is a weakness that is necessary for this first quiz round, but as soon as a reading team develops the authority of typings will more properly decentralize away from myself, and the team as a whole will take the model forward into future improvements. This quiz is to help that happen.
(From now until the 15th I'll aim to finish the SiFe thread or get as far as possible with it -- to provide all sixteen types for comparison.)

    Tips on How to Prepare?

    1. Check out these Resources:

    2. Try Side-by-Side comparisons by development level. For example, you can split-screen the FiSe l--l and TiNe l--l together, to see if the essence of Ji l--l can be identified. You can do the same in order to look for contrast, for example between a TeSi l-l- and NeFi l-l-.
    3. Try to contrast one thing at a time if possible, so for example keep the same gender and light/dark F-attitude if you're contrasting dev levels, or keep the same dev levels if you're contrasting F-attitude.
If any other members come up with cool tips, or comments, feel free to share them here!
    Okay, see you guys soon!

In light of the Discord discussion and @hackphobia 's suggestion for an "appetizer", I wanted to take the discussion here regarding the typing of: Juliette Binoche
I made a few brief comments on where I thought the investigation of her type may be channeled, but please feel free to discard those.  Feel free to reply with your typing of her, and if possible build up a supporting argument however you'd prefer.
Personally, I am more interested in the methodology of typing, than in Juliette's type itself. I think I might know what it is, but what matters more is in supporting arguments --which is an obligation we all have, including me-- and that is what I'd love to see our prospective vultologists excel at. Okay, fire away! 🙂

@auburn - hehehe, yes, the juicy tedium of vultology is in the details. As with any subject that actually possesses merit, overcoming plateaus in skill/understanding requires devoting significant amounts of time to repetition and dissection of those repetitions. I have always found the psychological aspects of CT the far more interesting side of the coin, and find my interest in vultology has always been in service to that other side. But again, as with most anything in life, the best results come from a pure desire towards something. The drive for betterment in a subject should be done from an unadulterated desire for mastery in that skill set, rather than what that skill set could be in service to something else. My own flagging desire to invest those repetitions and dissections into vultology comes as my commitment to other self-chosen time-sinks has never been stronger.
Question: Can I assume that the "answers"/supporting argumentation submitted for the actual quiz will be private rather than public?

Yes, of course. Ultimately, only the end typing is needed for this quiz of five samples. But members can choose to provide supporting reasons if they'd like. 🙂

Indeed! Vultology at this point is quite exhaustive, but in that exhaustiveness is its strength and keenness of discernment. I was saying recently that I think a whole semester class could be devoted to it at this point. (And I plan to do something of that sort online.)

Added a poll to this thread above ^
..for the practice sample Juliette Binoche
those of you who've been taking a look, please vote above..? even if you're not 100% sure. i'm curious to see whether a consensus forms and what it might be.
    thanks!

Oh, here I am, trying to type Juliette Binoche again. :)))
I agree with Ne-Si axis and I think she is Ne conscious. I think Celeste showed this above. <3
For the rest I have to be honest. My main issues are - to me she looks mostly rigid and face centric which would mean she is J lead. When I compare her to TeSi's though, I don't see an appropriate similarity in energy. There are rather moments when I get from her the impression she might be more similar to Fi leads.
I will show examples of what I mean with the disclaimers that :
    -she might be doing conductor chin swivels that I will show below. If this is a sure sign for conductor, she must be conductor. I am simply putting TeSi aside first because I didn't see any sample similar enough for me to be able to accept she is one;
-her smile looks mostly zygomatic to me, which is why I considered NeTi too.
That being said, I will explore FiNe first and see if I change my mind on the way. :)))

This looks to me like - J rigid posture, Ji disengaging, and then some snippy head nods with a very soft shoulder shrug. I am bad at telling apart Ji disengaging from Pi diagonal eye drift, so if it is a diagonal eye drift, please let me know.

Again rigid. Is this Fi radiation or are these just shoulder shrugs? The shoulders are falling in a similar way with what I saw exemplified in Fi leads. Is this a wounded expression or not? I see 0 snarling and I wouldn't count the asymmetry as true Fi asymmetrical mouth though. Still not gonna drop the impression that she is an Fi user yet, so let's see if I can find a gif for Fi asymmetrical mouth.

Ok, I think this is good enough in defense of asymmetrical mouth. Also what she says in this video is in the direction of self expression.
Let's see if she does any Ji meticulous hand movements.

This looks like J - Exacting hands. I am not sure if it can be classified as exerted push or not, as the examples on the site are way softer. I'd say it is a Je-Ji mix of a gesture anyway and for sure not P-casual. I would have said it is pointed emphasis but I see the fingers would need to be pinched or somehow close to each other for that so I will just say to me this looks like a Je and Ji hand gesture. Please clarify what it actually is ! 🙂

Again these don't look like casual hands. She is looking for precision from what I can tell.
Contrary to what she is doing in other moments though ! :))) From what I saw in other videos...she has casual hands, then she keeps them on her lap or on the table, then she does some Je and Ji gestures...this confuses me.
I think here she does a mix of Pe casual hands and maybe some Ji meticulous hands (this is the oldest one I found and I don't think she is Je conscious here ) :

Here she looks more like an NeFi. With perk ups, bubbling momentum, spritely energy, casual hands. What is also interesting is she looks pretty seelie here...or does she? I thought she is unseelie, this is why it was surprising.

This one above looks like Ne balloon and Fi unbridled radiation.
After seeing this video I think there are chances for her to be NeFi but I still voted for FiNe in the poll because of the reasons above and because she looks to me overall closer to the FiNe II-I's than to the NeFi III-'s.
Now, as I said, I thought I saw her do conductor head pushes earlier...
I can't make gifs out of this video for some reason but I will show you guys what I am talking about...and analyzing it more and re-reading the part about conductor head pushes...I don't think in her case they are actually Je lead head pushes. So, look at 09:45 :

I first thought they are Je lead head pushes which made me feel puzzled...can she be Je lead? Now I actually think that's a mix of Ne perk up, Fi unbridled radiation and Te head nods...but not conductor head pushes because they lack the forwardness necessary for that. So, I think here she is Je conscious but not Je lead.
As a conclusion, I think she might be FiNe II-I. I would love to say I see a certain NeFi dev level that fits but I don't really. NeFi I-I- and even NeFi III-'s seem too energetic compared to her. And she looks Je conscious in the video above.
An alternative I would consider is NeTi III-. Energetically they look similar.
Now that I see how many types people saw...oh dear :))) Ooooh dear. :))

Was on a trip. Catching up with this.
    I'll give it a try.
Saw the Fi/Te signals + Ne/Si signals (mostly Ne).
Lots of sways, toggles, bubbling momentum, naive eyes… Pe is likely her basis. I don’t think she’s a J type (J seems to interrupt P).
She has a rigidity added by two J functions developed, I believe.
Saw lots of Ji signals + Fi signals.
Even if her arms don’t move that much (but they do move forward and the gestures seem firm enough), there are lots of head nods and head shakes, shrugs and an overall added forwardness to the Pe core.
    Therefore, I’d say dev. III-.
My full guess: NeFi / dev. III-.
Edit: Hmmm… Watched her vids more carefully, and I think i’ve mistaken Pi eye-drifts for Ji disengaging eyes… She also displays a great deal of conductor energy… Seems to have weighted movements… Not so much meticulousness and receding energy, but Pi narcotization… She’s not as angular as other Pe(JJ)s, not as nervous and stuttering either…
So, I’m changing her dev. to NeFi / I-II / unseelie...

My guess is NeFi ll--, seelie - but its just fast guessing.  Her charm seems Fi, she giggles now and then, she has some Ne perk-ups and brushstrokes

    @septimus

She has a rigidity added by two J functions developed, I believe.

Yes, this makes sense. It could be the reason why I see her as being too rigid to be NeFi. I could see her being NeFi in the older videos, which would actually indicate she is an NeFi who developed Te and Fi later on.
Another argument for NeFi is that I watched a lot of videos of her yesterday and despite her rigidity, I think most of her hand movements are casual.
Arguments against NeFi and for FiNe are :
    - there are (indeed short -like 2 minutes) videos in which she is rigid almost permanently from start till end which I wouldn't expect from an Ne lead (but I can modulate and be rigid for minutes so this is not impossible and she might want to look poised simply because of her work; I think she could be an admirer of actresses like Audrey Hepburn and she might unconsciously or even consciously choose to express that certain style, you know?);
    - The NeFi III- on the site still look more bubbly, energetic and full of enthusiasm. I can't really make a very articulate point, but looking at Linda Liukas...she is almost constantly softly swaying, constantly in an alert state, she goes in perk up after perk up.
    https://cognitivetype.net/s/NeFi_Linda_Liukas_1.mp4?_=1
And I don't see this in Juliette Binoche's case. Now I also don't see that great of an overlap with the FiNe II-I on the site...but I think she is closer to them. Closer to Susan Cain than to Linda Liukas. But I might be wrong.
On a more fun note :

Very accurate way of describing her. :)))
I would also love to see more opinions because now it looks like most of us think she is a delta reviser but there are also other views about her type.

Hey @bera. I edited my dev. level hypothesis above. I'm not so sure about a Ji dev. for her, cause lots of what i thought were disengagements, after a second look seem to be eye drifts... It makes more sense to me cause, even if I think she's an Ne-lead - and that can be seen in the early vids, as you pointed out - she displays a great deal of conductor energy... She's less excitable, angular and stuttering as the other Pe(JJ) in the database, and more slow-paced, weighted, imo.  I think her apparent rigidity/angularity, is not as pronounced as the Pe(JJ) example and is mellowed by Pi. She also seems more settled than Pe(JJ). What I see, but i could be wrong, is Pe sways, casual hands and excitability tempered by two conductor functions: the rigidity and forwardness of Je + the stillness and narcotization/calmness of Pi.

lots of what i thought were disengagements, after a second look seem to be eye drifts

I wondered about this exact same thing. 🙂 She usually does not freeze and look down but she either looks down and to the side or up and to the side. My line of thinking was...well if she is rigid and is looking down and to the side, this is a Ji disengaging signal. But could it be Je rigidness and Pi eye drift and a Pi inertia slowing her down? I really don't know and I am really curious if this is what is happening.
Also we don't have any NeFi I-II's to compare her too and this might be exactly why some of us said, oh she does not look like any of the NeFi dev levels on the site.
This would also explain the idea some people had that she is TeSi, as well as the idea that she is SiFe. 🙂 She also made me think of tea at some point.
So - she does this pretty often :

So, she looks up and to the side, thinks and then does a Pe like sway with some hand movements -that I don't see here but I figure they might be Je, she seems to have a hit.

And here she does the Ne toggles but in the middle of them I think she has a moment when she has a fixed gaze.

Here too. A fixed gaze moment followed by Ne toggling, no?
I think you are right ! It makes a lot of sense anyway ! Si might be slowing her down and then our thoughts are - she has this warmth...where does it come from? Also why isn't she more energetic and bubbly if she is NeFi? Something doesn't add up.  And we reach one of the following conclusions :
    - she is actually an Fe user ;
    - she is delta, so it must be Fi, so maybe she is FiNe or maybe she is NeFi II--. She can't possibly be NeTe or TeNe and this soft, right? So, ok, let's go with Fi. :))
And actually she might just be slowed down by Si ! And this would explain how some of what I said in the first post would be wrong. Maybe it's not wounded expression, maybe it's just Si. Maybe her shoulders don't fall in an Fi radiation way, maybe she just does a shoulder shrug that is affected somewhat by Pi inertia. Which is anyway something I usually fail to see.
If you are right - and I think you are - there are so many lessons to draw out of this ! I think the most important one is to go from the roots up, not from branch to branch. Because I kept comparing her to different people on the site. Instead of looking more closely to the underlying issue. Like counting the signals of each function. 🙂
