Signal

Fe-8: Upset Tension

Author: Juan E. Sandoval Cite
First Published: January 28, 2018

Visual Description

The zygomatic muscles reaching from the ears to the corners of the lips become tense/toned as if pulling back, while not actually opening the mouth. But, should the mouth be open, a diagonal tension will remain that runs parallel to the jawline and towards the mouth. The corners of the lips will also be turned slightly downward.

Psychology Description

This signal demonstrate a psychology that is simultaneously casting, while withholding, their ethical judgment from others. The conflicting tension in the mouth is metaphorical for an inner experience that can be summarized as "I want to shame you, but I won't do it." A habitual display of this signal will evidence a psyche with an antagonistic relationship to the current state of social affairs, whether at the nuclear family level or (inter)national level.
